Baptism Policy

  1. On a motion made and adopted, June 10, 2002, the Session approved the following recommendation from the Worship Committee:

    That the number of babies to be baptized at any particular worship service to be limited to six, and to provide infant baptisms on a bi-monthly basis, or more frequently as needed.

  2. The Session at a meeting on December 14, 1992, adopted the following statement as the question to be posed to the Congregation in connection with the institution of Baptism:

    As a member of this congregation, do you commit this church, First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, Mississippi, to undertake the responsibility of assisting these parents in the Christian nurture of their child?

  3. At a Session meeting on April 7, 1986, the following resolution was adopted pursuant to the recommendation of the Worship Service Committee:

    RESOLVED, that the Sacrament of Infant Baptism be a part of the Sunday morning services the last Sunday of January, March, May, July, September and November.  That the Worship Committee recommend any changes of date that may occur because of conflict (i.e. Easter, and that any other special requests for infant baptism be granted only under extraordinary circumstances and then by written request through the Worship Committee.  That these six baptismal dates be regularly published throughout the year along with the requirements for special baptismal services. Adult baptisms will be conducted at such times as shall be agreed upon by the Senior Minister and the Worship Service Committee.
