God is doing amazing things in the spread of the gospel and at First Presbyterian Church we’re passionate about our engagement in His tremendous work across the street and around the world. In 1 Corinthians 16:9, the apostle Paul explained his reasons for ministering in a certain place (in this case, Ephesus). He wrote, “for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there is much opposition.” He gave two reasons for why he was convinced the Lord had led him to minister in Ephesus at that time: 1) a wide door of opportunity for effective ministry had opened up there; and, 2) there was much opposition to God’s work in that place. What was true for the apostle Paul will be true for us: when God opens a wide door of opportunity for effective gospel ministry, we should expect much opposition. This is what we’re experiencing and observing across our country and world today. But King Jesus has already won the victory. His Kingdom is advancing, and His purposes will not fail. It is our great privilege to join Him in that great work, for His eternal glory and our unending joy!
