The Ministry
"The goal of our instruction
is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and
a sincere faith" 1 Timothy 1:5
The early followers of Christ were called disciples
(Acts 6:1-2, 7; 9:36) before they were called Christians
(Acts 11:26). The Greek word for disciple, mathetes,
simply means learner, someone who sits at the feet
of a teacher. The Discipleship Ministry seeks to assist
every member of the church to respond to Christ's call: "Come,
follow Me" (Mark 1:16-20, 2:23f; Luke 9:59-62).
This means allegiance, loyalty, service, and sacrifice in the
context of growth in grace and holiness. Our goal is "to
glorify God and enjoy Him forever" (Westminster Shorter
Catechism).
The Mission
"until we all reach unity
of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God and become
mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of God"
(Ephesians 4:13).
The two-fold mission of the Discipleship Ministry
is to fulfill our covenantal duties to nurture and edify the
members of the household of God and to proclaim the gospel of
Jesus Christ that the elect of God may be built up in the faith.
The task of Discipleship is to equip the membership of the church
to serve each other as they grow in the grace and knowledge
of God.
The Discipleship Ministry implements this mission
through the teaching, preaching, and discipling activities of
its ministers and staff throughout the church.
